Words of Encouragement

The mind is sharper and keener in seclusion and uninterrupted solitude. Originality thrives in seclusion free of outside influences beating upon us to cripple the creative mind. Be alone - that is the secret of invention: be alone, that is when ideas are born. - Nikola Tesla

A little on the Lot

I'm Elke Lopez and welcome to my Lot. As of late, the noise outside the confines of our intimate lives has been noisier than ever. I hope the Lopez lot will be a quiet place to help you think, unwind and retreat away from it all. Even if for just a few minutes before having to get back to the many lots of your own day.

Pick of the Week

In hopes to inspire, challenge, uplift, and comfort

Orphan Train Book.jpg

This week I finished listening to Orphan Train by  Christina Baker Kline on Audible. The story moves between contemporary Maine and Depression-era Minnesota, between the lives of Molly and Vivian, respectively. This emotional story of resilience, second chances, and unexpected friendship pierced my very core. I learned about the historical Orphan Trains between 1854 and 1929 that carried thousands of abandoned children from the East Coast to the Midwest. It also tenderly gave us a glimpse of what a modern-day foster child that's about to age out of the system contends with never having experienced a stable, loving home that many of us take for granted.  The 17 and 91-year-old find common ground in telling their stories and create a bond that helps them find peace with their pasts and move forward in their present. I highly recommend this lovely book to everyone.
